Happy new year MEM-bers !

Happy new year

Our community of Marine Energy Management enthusiasts has been growing steadily and we where thrilled when we broke the 50 members barrier in December.

In the 4 months since launch, we have had over 1600 visits from 57 countries and the top 10 are (ordered my number of visits): Iceland, Finland, UK, Germany, US, Norway, Faroe Isands, Canada, Denmark and Switzerland.
Strange mix hehe :p

So far, most of the content has been contributed by me and Kristinn and we promise to keep bringing you the latest and greatest from the field.
We also know that many of you have great stories to share and we hope to see more posts from the whole community this year. This is after all an open forum and it's extremely simple to join in and spark a conversation.

On that note, please tell us how you think the next 12 months will pan out? What are the hot topics and trends? Which events will you be attending? etc etc....

Happy New Year!

Daniel, I second your view on 2009 and beyond. I think this is the whole point of energy management in ships. The basic approach is to measure and register your consumption. The next step is then to monitor the fuel consumption and report with some key parameters as speed. The final step is then to use systematic methods to create benchmarking figures and decision support for on board and fleet management. We at Marorka have been putting effort on all these steps in energy management on ships. I share your view that the demand for using and creating value out of the ship data is growing among shipowners.

Cheers,
Kristinn

Hello MEM Group. My predictions for 2009 are that when it comes to vessel performance, more shipowners will seek benefits that go 'beyond monitoring'. Meaning that shipowners will look more towards benchmarking and ship-type comparisons, not simply speed and fuel figures. I will be speaking at the MotorShip Propulsion Conference in May in CPH and the very subject of my presentation will be "BEYOND MONITORING". Wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Daniel Kane.
